As part of an ongoing grant to analyze blueberry damage during harvesting and processing, new sensing technologies are being explored for detection of blueberry bruises. In pulse-phase thermography, the inspection target (berries) are heated by thermal radiation, and their change in temperature over time is monitored by a thermal camera. By closely inspecting and comparing the rates of heating and cooling of bruised and healthy berries, it may be possible to differentiate between them.
